On the weekends I work at a meat market. I started there when I was in high school (2014). My boss, the owner, turned 67 that April.
Fast forward to 2024:
Becky: “Hey, what’s this homemade ice cream for?”
Barry: “My birthday next month”
Becky: “Oh yeah, you’re turning the big 7-7!”
Barry: “Yeah, that’s crazy.”
Becky: “I’ve been a part of your life for a decade? A decade!”
Barry: “Well, yeah. I guess you have.”
I’m reflecting on that conversation and realizing that other than family, being in Barry’s life is one of the longest relationships I have. A good one, at that! I have learned a lot of life lessons from him. I certainly do look up to him like a grandfather.
A decade is an interesting measurement of time. A lot can change in a decade and ten years is how far the future is.
